Brian Kellock (28 December 1962 – 27 May 2025), one of the UK’s finest jazz pianists, a master of the instrument whose reputation extended far beyond his native Scotland. His style, a breathtaking blend of Oscar Peterson’s swing and a uniquely mischievous harmonic wit, made him a first-call accompanist for visiting American legends like Scott Hamilton and Herb Geller. A multi-award winner, including several British Jazz Awards, Kellock’s contribution to Thick Records brought a world-class level of lyricism and technical brilliance that, along with John Rae, bridged the gap between the European and Southern Hemisphere jazz traditions.
