Oscar Lavën

Oscar Lavën is an eclectic multi-instrumentalist and composer, widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s most formidable woodwind specialists. Known for his virtuosic command across a vast array of instruments, Lavën is a prolific force in the capital’s music scene. A frequent soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and a core member of numerous leading ensembles, his playing is characterized by a deep historical knowledge paired with a fearless, contemporary edge. Whether leading his own adventurous projects or contributing to the country’s premier jazz outfits such as the Aotearoa Jazz Orchestra, Lavën’s versatile voice remains a signature of the Thick Records sound.
