Founded in 2014 by John Rae and Ben Wilcock

Thick Records NZ was born from a shared vision to document and celebrate the highest caliber of jazz in Aotearoa. By championing the innovative spirit of New Zealand’s finest improvisers, the label serves as a premier platform for music that is both technically masterful and culturally resonant.

Led by two of the country’s most prolific practitioners, award-winning composer John Rae and acclaimed pianist Ben Wilcock, Thick Records NZ is more than a label; it is a curator of 21st-century sound. Dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the genre, the label provides a world-class stage for the unique musical identity of the South Pacific to reach a global audience
